Proper first aid can help prevent infection if we have a minor injury and can save our life or the lives of relatives from severe bleeding if the injury is severe. When there is a bleeding wound , what should we do to stop the bleeding quickly and prevent infection?
Dr. Chan Sineth, a general practitioner, said that no matter how small or severe the injury, if we do not do first aid properly, the wound can become infected. If the wound is small, we can stop the blood as follows:
1. Cover wounds
If you have a wound on your leg or arm and it is bleeding a lot, you need to lift your leg or arm higher than your heart to reduce the speed of blood flow and cover it with a piece of gauze or a clean cloth.
If there is bleeding from a bandage or patch, we need to apply a bandage or bandage to the wound. When holding a wound, we must not remove the compress or bandage to see if the bleeding has stopped.
We need to hold the wound for about 4 to 5 minutes to stop the bleeding. If the wound is still bleeding, press and hold the wound for 15 minutes to stop the blood from flowing. If the bleeding continues, call an ambulance or get medical help fast.
2. Wash the wound
When the wound stops bleeding, we must gently remove the compress or bandage from the wound. Then wash the wound and the skin around the wound with alcohol or betadine (antiseptic).
If there is no alcohol or betadine, we can clean the skin around the wound with soap and water, if the area around the wound is dirty or dirty to prevent infection, but we need to wipe gently, do not Let the wound bleed again.
In addition, we must remove all debris, debris or debris from the wound, if any.
3. Close or bandage the wound
Then we have to cover or bandage the wound with bandage or bandage according to the size of the wound to prevent further infection or bleeding.
If the wound is deep, large, with holes that can see fat , muscle , or bone , even if we can stop the bleeding or stop the flow, we need to see a doctor for a check-up or treatment. Add.
In case of serious injury, we need to call an ambulance or go to the doctor immediately, but before the ambulance arrives or before going to the hospital, we can stop the first aid blood.
Finally, in order for the wound to heal quickly and not be infected, we need to keep the wound clean and free of water. We also need to wash the wound with betadine and change the bandage daily if necessary.
If, after bandaging the wound, we have a fever, the wound becomes more and more swollen, or the wound has pus, it means that the wound is infected. If the symptoms are severe, we need to see a doctor.
When performing a first aid blood transfusion, we need to clean our hands with alcohol, especially medical gloves, to prevent the infection from infecting the wound or to protect ourselves from infection or viruses from the injured person's blood.
